The Meta Tag and Its Use

What is Meta Tag?
Meta Tag is an element placed in the HTML Header portion of your web page’s source code.

What is the Purpose of Meta Tag?
Its main purpose is to provide search engines information about your website but not visible to web browsers. This tag will describe and classify what are the contents of your website are. These codes are the information you supplied to search engines about a page for them to be able to list the site and accurately index it.

As I browse the net, I found these important points to consider why this Tag element is important in your website or blog.

1. If Meta Tags are carefully handled, this will definitely get you not only better results but great ranking results with search engines.

2. If Meta Tags are structured better to mirror web page content, the better chance of your blog of achieving good search engine rankings.

We really need to carefully handle this tag element and structure its codes the right way because this is important when you submit your blog to search engines, their crawlers and other classification software will look for this tag and classify web content.

But this Tag will not guarantee that our website or blog page will get high ranking in search engines. Some webmasters are saying that this Tag is not important anymore due to rampant abuse and manipulation especially the use of Meta Keywods Tag that most search engines don’t support it anymore.

It was actually conclusively proven years ago that meta tags have absolutely no influence over rankings in Google.

Your meta description may show up in Google results, but thats it. Keywords tags are not used by Google at all.
